Vaccination

Protecting your puppy or kitten against some of the major fatal infectious diseases is an essential part of our work. The infectious diseases that the vaccines are designed to protect against are still seen all too often in the UK amongst unprotected animals. The diseases can cause your pet to be extremely poorly and fatalities can occur despite the improvements in modern veterinary care. Our advice is don’t take the risk. The free health check that we undertake at the time of vaccination and booster vaccination is just as important as the vaccine - please use the time to discuss any problems you may have with the vet you see. In young puppies and kittens it is sometimes advisable to have this free health check done before the vaccine is due, our reception staff will advise you on the best approach. To emphasise our commitment to preventative healthcare free worming doses are also available at the time of first vaccination.

Vaccination is used for protection against distemper and hard pad, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus and one type of kennel cough in puppies; in kittens infectious enteritis, flu and feline leukaemia can be covered, and in rabbits vaccine protects against myxamotosis and viral haemorrhagic disease. Yearly boosters are recommended and a postal reminder scheme is in operation.

The practice uses the Intervet range of vaccines allowing early puppy socialisation and we follow Intervet’s recommendations in relation to booster vaccinations to try to ensure that your pet is boh fully protected and not vaccine overloaded.
