Some pets need to be on prolonged treatment and repeat prescriptions can be obtained from reception if ordered in advance: all such prescriptions must, by law, be agreed by a Veterinary Surgeon. So called “Prescription Only Medicines” are strictly controlled in the interests of public and animal health and our policy is to review any case on repeats every 6 months (unless you are otherwise advised). Please remember such regular check ups are beneficial as far as your pet is concerned as we can monitor the progress of chronic problems and perhaps obtain an early glimpse of a new trouble developing. New drugs are being developed all the time and as long as we see your pet regularly we can change to new treatments if we think these will help more.
We are quite happy to write you a prescription for any medicine that we dispense if you prefer to go to a pharmacist to have the medicine made up but we are able to dispense all such medicines that we use at extremely competitive prices. If you do go to a pharmacist to have the drug dispensed please make sure that it is the drug shown on the prescription and not a human generic equivalent as sometimes the pharmacology of such preparations differs from the original because of how it is formulated.
Veterinary prescriptions can also be filled by online pharmacies. If you wish to use such services, to safeguard the health of your pet, please only use reputable UK based sites as some of the others do not supply what the prescription asks for.
Pet Insurance
Our new facilities allow us to help your pets far more than we could even five years ago; this means that treatments can, of course, be very expensive - we strongly recommend pet insurance and, although there are many companies out there, we work very closely with PetPlan.
